What WhatsApp template messages are, and when you need one

This is the part of WhatsApp messaging that surprises merchants, usually the first time a message is rejected. It is a Meta rule, not an app limitation.

What is a WhatsApp template message?

A pre-approved message format that a business can send outside the 24-hour customer service window, with variables filled in per recipient.

When a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens during which you can reply freely, including with an agent answering automatically.

Outside that window, WhatsApp requires an approved template. This is why an order-update message needs a template while an answer to a question does not.

How do you create one in this app?

Create and manage templates against Meta from inside the app, with variables mapped to the values you want filled in.

Templates are submitted to Meta for approval, and they can be rejected. Utility templates — order updates, delivery notifications — are approved far more readily than marketing ones.

Why was a template rejected?

Usually because the category is wrong, the wording is promotional when it was submitted as utility, or a variable is ambiguous.

Meta's rules on this are strict and change over time. Check the current guidance in Meta's own documentation rather than relying on a blog post, including this one.

Does this app send campaigns?

No. There is no bulk or broadcast campaign feature.

Template management here is for the messages your automations and your team send — the agent replies to customers who message you, and templates cover the cases outside the service window.

If broadcast campaigns are essential to your plan, this app does not do that today.

Common questions

Can the agent reply without a template?

Yes, within the 24-hour customer service window that opens when a customer messages you.

Who approves templates?

Meta approves them. The app submits and tracks them; it cannot override a rejection.
